| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Officer John W. Sartain of the Corpus Christi Police |

| 6 | 7 | | Department lost his life in the line of duty on August 20, 1971, and |

| 7 | 8 | | his service and sacrifice will not soon be forgotten; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, While walking to his squad car to begin a patrol |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | shift with his partner, Officer Sartain was shot outside the police |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | station; he died the following day at a local hospital; and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, At the time of his death, Officer Sartain was |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | survived by a wife and daughter; this dedicated public servant was |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | honored in the community he so ably served with a street that was |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | renamed in his memory; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Officer Sartain, who willingly place themselves in harm's way each |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | day to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow citizens; |

| 19 | 20 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 20 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 21 | 22 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and exemplary service of |
