45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Corpus Christi celebrated its
67 100th anniversary in June 2014; and
78 WHEREAS, The 125th Rotary Club to be chartered worldwide, the
89 Corpus Christi chapter was established in 1914 with 36 founding
910 members; and
1011 WHEREAS, Its mission is to create a meaningful fellowship of
1112 business and professional leaders who are dedicated to making a
1213 positive difference in their community through service, and over
1314 the last 100 years, members have left a lasting legacy in Corpus
1415 Christi; and
1516 WHEREAS, Rotarians have volunteered innumerable hours and
1617 provided untold resources to programs benefiting the community;
1718 such worthwhile projects include conducting vaccination clinics,
1819 assisting with the placement of children through their Adoption
1920 Awareness Picnic, contributing to the Salvation Army's Red Kettle
2021 campaign, and providing grant funds of more than $650,000 for
2122 preservation projects through the Harvey Weil Sportsman
2223 Conservationist program; the club commissioned the "Queen of the
2324 Sea" sculpture in the downtown area and installed a town clock in
2425 Heritage Park; and
2526 WHEREAS, The group also demonstrates a commitment to
2627 promoting excellence in education, and it has funded scholarships
2728 at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Del Mar College;
2829 moreover, it has recognized the achievements of top area high
2930 school students and provided leadership training to young adults in
3031 South Texas with its Rotary Youth Leadership Award Program; and
3132 WHEREAS, On the international front, the club has helped
3233 people in Mexico, Fiji, and Honduras through a number of health,
3334 housing, and literacy initiatives and has contributed to Rotary's
3435 PolioPlus program, which works to eradicate polio; and
3536 WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the Rotary
3637 tradition, the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi has greatly enhanced
3738 the lives of countless people throughout its century-long history,
3839 and this significant milestone provides a fitting opportunity to
3940 recognize it; now, therefore, be it
4041 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
4142 Legislature hereby congratulate the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi
4243 on its 100th anniversary and honor its members, past and present,
4344 for their exceptional service; and, be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4546 prepared for the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi as an expression of
4647 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
