| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Instituto de Cultura Hispánica de Corpus Christi |

| 6 | 7 | | is commemorating the 40th anniversary of its founding in 2016; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The organization was formally established on |

| 8 | 9 | | October 12, 1976, when Juan Jose Gussoni, Sergio Villarreal, |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Dr. Efren Suris, Dr. Jose E. Antoni, Evaristo Tercilla, and other |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | members of the Hispanic community met at the home of Dr. Marc |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Eugenio with the goal to create an organization to promote and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | propagate Hispanic culture in Corpus Christi; Mr. Tercilla was |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | elected as the group's first president, and Dr. Eugenio was |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | appointed president of the board; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Since that time, this nonprofit cultural |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | organization has upheld its mission to foster greater understanding |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | of the different Hispanic nationalities represented in Corpus |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Christi, and the value that they bring to the community; striving to |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | cultivate an atmosphere of goodwill and friendship, members |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | encourage cultural exchange and collaborate with educational |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | institutions and other entities to sponsor an assortment of |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | lectures and festive performances; the organization also awards |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | college scholarships to deserving area high school seniors who |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | support its goals; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The Instituto de Cultura Hispánica occupies the |

| 26 | 27 | | Lichtenstein House in Heritage Park, a building constructed in 1905 |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | that is listed as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and in the |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | National Register of Historic Places; members operate a museum in |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | the building that offers art exhibits, folkloric displays, English |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | and Spanish recitals, and cultural celebrations, along with |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | artifacts from a diversity of Hispanic countries; and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, For four decades, the Instituto de Cultura Hispánica |

| 33 | 34 | | de Corpus Christi has served as an invaluable area resource, and its |

| 34 | 35 | | members may take pride in the role they have played in strengthening |

| 35 | 36 | | the cultural fabric of their community; now, therefore, be it |

| 36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby honor the Instituto de Cultura Hispánica de |

| 38 | 39 | | Corpus Christi on its 40th anniversary and extend to all those |

| 39 | 40 | | associated with the group sincere best wishes for continued |
