45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Conley Todd Jr. retired as senior vice president of
67 First Financial Bank in Newton on March 31, 2015, concluding an
78 exemplary career in banking that has spanned five and a half
89 decades; and
910 WHEREAS, A member of the Newton High School Class of 1958,
1011 Conley Todd graduated with a bachelor of business administration
1112 degree from Lamar University in 1962; he subsequently attended the
1213 Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist
1314 University and the American Bankers Association National
1415 Commercial Lending School at the University of Oklahoma; and
1516 WHEREAS, Mr. Todd began working in the banking industry at
1617 First Security National Bank in Beaumont in 1960, when he was a
1718 junior in college; hired in 1962 by IBM as a data processing
1819 representative, he returned to First Security National in 1966 as
1920 vice president of marketing data processing services; eight years
2021 later, he assumed the reins of Citizens National Bank as president;
2122 and
2223 WHEREAS, In 1981, Mr. Todd went into business for himself as
2324 a consultant, providing such services as loan review, capital
2425 planning, policy writing, training, and due diligence studies;
2526 while continuing in that role for more than two decades, he also
2627 held management positions at a number of banks; he became the
2728 southwest regional manager of Hibernia National Bank in Orange in
2829 1998, and he went on to serve as interim president of Mauriceville
2930 National Bank in 2002 and as senior vice president of Orange Savings
3031 Bank later that year before accepting the position of senior vice
3132 president of First Financial Bank; and
3233 WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan has further distinguished
3334 himself through his involvement in a variety of professional and
3435 community organizations; he has held membership in the Independent
3536 Bankers Association of Texas, the American Bankers Association, and
3637 the Sabine-Neches Bankers Association, and he has given generously
3738 of his time and talents in behalf of the Newton Lions Club, the
3839 Newton Chamber of Commerce, the Deep East Texas Development
3940 Association, Rotary Club International, and Boys' Haven; moreover,
4041 he is a valued congregant of First United Methodist Church of
4142 Newton; and
4243 WHEREAS, Retirement will undoubtedly afford Mr. Todd the
4344 opportunity to spend more time with his beloved family, including
4445 his wife of 52 years, Gadelle Todd, his daughters, Meredith and Amy,
4546 and his six grandchildren, as well as to indulge in his favorite
4647 leisure activities of golfing, hunting, fishing, cooking, and
4748 traveling; and
4849 WHEREAS, Throughout his banking career, Conley Todd upheld
4950 the highest standards of his profession, earning the respect of
5051 colleagues and customers alike, and he may indeed reflect with
5152 pride on a job well done as he embarks on the next exciting chapter
5253 of his life; now, therefore, be it
5354 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
5455 Legislature hereby congratulate Conley Todd Jr. on his retirement
5556 from First Financial Bank and extend to him sincere best wishes for
5657 the future; and, be it further
5758 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5859 prepared for Mr. Todd as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5960 House of Representatives.
