5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Brown of West University Place was |

6 | 7 | | presented with the George T. Caldwell Award by the Texas Society of |

7 | 8 | | Pathologists at the organization's annual meeting on January 24, |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Named in honor of the venerated pathologist |

10 | 11 | | Dr. George T. Caldwell, this prestigious accolade was established |

11 | 12 | | in 1954 to annually recognize excellence in service and teaching in |
---|
12 | 13 | | the field of pathology; and |
---|
13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Dr. Brown is a notable |
---|
14 | 15 | | alumnus of Trinity University, where he received the McGavock Award |
---|
15 | 16 | | for Outstanding Research for his undergraduate work in organic |
---|
16 | 17 | | synthesis and where he graduated summa cum laude with bachelor's |
---|
17 | 18 | | degrees in chemistry and music in 1981 and subsequently with a |
---|
18 | 19 | | master's degree in organ performance; he went on to earn his |
---|
19 | 20 | | M.D. from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San |
---|
20 | 21 | | Antonio, and during the course of his studies there, he was honored |
---|
21 | 22 | | with the Carl Kline Award and the A. O. Severance Award; and |
---|
22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Today, Dr. Brown enjoys a fulfilling career in |
---|
23 | 24 | | Houston as president of Memorial Pathology Consultants as well as |
---|
24 | 25 | | medical director of both system laboratory services and the core |
---|
25 | 26 | | laboratory at Memorial Hermann, the largest nonprofit health system |
---|
26 | 27 | | in the area; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has further distinguished |
---|
28 | 29 | | himself through his community involvement; he has actively served |
---|
29 | 30 | | St. Mark's Episcopal Church and School as president of the school |
---|
30 | 31 | | board and as a member of the Visioning and Building Discernment |
---|
31 | 32 | | Committees, as well as a choir member and a certified lay reader, |
---|
32 | 33 | | and his exceptional efforts were recognized with the inscription of |
---|
33 | 34 | | his name at the base of the church's altar cross; moreover, he is a |
---|
34 | 35 | | staunch advocate for the arts in Houston, where he supports the |
---|
35 | 36 | | Hobby Center for the Performing Arts and the Houston Grand Opera; |

37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Dr. Brown is blessed with |
---|
38 | 39 | | the love and support of his wife, Laura Brown, and he takes |
---|
39 | 40 | | tremendous pride in their son, Matthew; and |

40 | 41 | | WHEREAS, Embodying the highest ideals of his profession, |
---|
41 | 42 | | Dr. Richard Brown has garnered the lasting respect and admiration |
---|
42 | 43 | | of his colleagues, and he may take justifiable pride in this stellar |
---|
43 | 44 | | achievement; now, therefore, be it |

44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

45 | 46 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Richard Brown on his receipt of |

46 | 47 | | the 2015 Dr. George T. Caldwell Award from the Texas Society of |

47 | 48 | | Pathologists and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
