| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Nurse anesthetists were the first professional |

| 6 | 7 | | health care workers to provide anesthesia in the United States, and |

| 7 | 8 | | they compose the oldest recognized group of advanced-practice |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | registered nurse specialists in this country; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, These registered nurses have completed a rigorous, |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | graduate-level course of academic and clinical study in a |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | nationally accredited program of nurse anesthesia; following |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | graduation, they are qualified to take the national certifying |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | examination; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, All graduates of nurse anesthesia educational |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | programs receive a master's degree, and those who successfully pass |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | the certifying exam are awarded the title of certified registered |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | nurse anesthetist (CRNA); and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, According to the American Association of Nurse |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Anesthetists, the majority of rural hospitals rely on CRNAs to |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | provide anesthesia care; without these advanced-practice nurses, |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | numerous facilities would be unable to maintain trauma |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | stabilization, surgical, and obstetrical capabilities, a |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | circumstance that would force many rural Americans to travel long |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | distances to obtain such services; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, CRNAs are employed in a wide variety of settings, |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | including hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, physicians' |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | offices, and medical facilities of the U.S. military, Department of |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Veterans Affairs, and Public Health Service; each year, the CRNAs |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | working in these facilities are the hands-on providers of |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | approximately 34 million anesthetics given to patients in the |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | United States; and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, The delivery of health care in this country is |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | dependent, in large measure, on the work of certified registered |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | nurse anesthetists, and it is indeed fitting that they be honored |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | for the crucial role that they fulfill; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby recognize January 25-31, 2015, as Nurse |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | Anesthetists Week in Texas and extend deep appreciation to all |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | certified registered nurse anesthetists for the great skill and |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | dedication they bring to their challenging vocation. |
