| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Before the crisis, DCHHS had prepared thoroughly for |

| 9 | 10 | | such an incident; the agency had previously dealt with health |

| 10 | 11 | | emergencies caused by West Nile virus, the H1N1 virus, and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | tuberculosis, and it had conducted routine drills in anticipation |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | of other major illness outbreaks; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Once a case of Ebola was confirmed in Dallas, the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | agency's personnel undertook numerous tasks to control the crisis, |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | among them clinical assessments, lab testing, contact tracing, |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | public education, and resource support; nurses in the Communicable |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Disease Division monitored passengers who had traveled on the same |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | flights as an Ebola patient, and DCHHS employees fielded calls from |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | concerned residents and inquiries from as far away as Bahrain; in |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | addition, the agency quickly provided translations of fact sheets |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | in 10 languages to ensure that area residents had access to crucial |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | information; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Throughout the month of October, DCHHS employees |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | worked around the clock to identify and monitor the contacts of new |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Ebola cases; the county was deemed free of Ebola on November 7, |

| 26 | 27 | | 2014, but while DCHHS returned to normal operations, it continued |

| 27 | 28 | | its efforts to prevent another outbreak, monitoring more than 30 |

| 28 | 29 | | individuals who had traveled from West Africa; and |

| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, The staff of Dallas County Health and Human Services |

| 30 | 31 | | demonstrated skill, professionalism, and dedication during a |

| 31 | 32 | | frightening medical crisis, and its proven ability to protect |

| 32 | 33 | | public health is a source of tremendous reassurance to area |
