45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The city of Abilene lost a beloved resident with the
67 untimely passing of Brian Joseph Green on March 12, 2015, at the age
78 of 56; and
89 WHEREAS, Born in Dayton, Ohio, on July 21, 1958, to Robert and
910 Gail Green, Brian Green grew up in Columbus and graduated from Upper
1011 Arlington High School; he studied aeronautics at Ohio State
1112 University and remained an ardent fan of the Buckeyes throughout
1213 his life; after college, he went on to serve his country as a member
1314 of the Air National Guard for nine years; and
1415 WHEREAS, Mr. Green first went to Abilene as an air force
1516 contractor at Dyess Air Force Base and settled there permanently in
1617 1987; following his retirement from the military, he teamed up with
1718 the Abilene Preservation League to renovate the Compton Building,
1819 which he converted into an upscale restaurant; the opening of
1920 Cypress Street Station in 1993 was an important step in the
2021 revitalization of downtown Abilene, and the business was such a
2122 success that Mr. Green later added Abilene Brewing Company, the
2223 first brewery in the area; and
2324 WHEREAS, Devoted to his adopted hometown, Mr. Green gave
2425 generously of his time and talents to a number of worthwhile
2526 organizations, including the Abilene Youth Sports Authority, the
2627 Abilene Chamber of Commerce, the Hendrick Medical Center
2728 Foundation, and the Paramount Theatre; in addition, he brought the
2829 Texas HOG motorcycle rally to Abilene as president of the Abilene
2930 Convention and Visitors Bureau, and he worked with the city's
3031 cultural affairs council to organize the Broadway in Abilene
3132 series; a member of the Texas Restaurant Association and its
3233 Abilene chapter, he was also instrumental in the establishment of a
3334 culinary school in the city; and
3435 WHEREAS, Caring and compassionate, Mr. Green took a personal
3536 interest in his employees and others in the community, and he was
3637 always ready to lend a hand to those in need; above all else, he
3738 cherished the time he spent with his beloved daughter, Ryleigh; and
3839 WHEREAS, Though it is impossible to gauge the full effect of
3940 one man's life, some people leave their unmistakable mark on the
4041 world as they move through it, and Brian Green was indeed one such
4142 individual; now, therefore, be it
4243 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
4344 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Brian Green and
4445 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
4546 daughter, Ryleigh Ann Green; to his brothers, Robert J. Green Jr.
4647 and his wife, Marcy, Jeffrey A. Green and his wife, Cathy, and John
4748 T. Green and his wife, Angie; to his nieces, Cara, Elyse, and
4849 Jacquelin; to his nephews, Nick, Dylan, Gabriel, and Mason; to his
4950 friend, Dr. Shelley Wayne-Bruton; to his Cypress Street family; and
5051 to his other friends and relatives; and, be it further
5152 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5253 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5354 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Brian
5455 Green.
