5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The city of Abilene lost a beloved resident with the |

6 | 7 | | untimely passing of Brian Joseph Green on March 12, 2015, at the age |

7 | 8 | | of 56; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Dayton, Ohio, on July 21, 1958, to Robert and |
---|
9 | 10 | | Gail Green, Brian Green grew up in Columbus and graduated from Upper |
---|
10 | 11 | | Arlington High School; he studied aeronautics at Ohio State |
---|
11 | 12 | | University and remained an ardent fan of the Buckeyes throughout |
---|
12 | 13 | | his life; after college, he went on to serve his country as a member |
---|
13 | 14 | | of the Air National Guard for nine years; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Green first went to Abilene as an air force |
---|
15 | 16 | | contractor at Dyess Air Force Base and settled there permanently in |
---|
16 | 17 | | 1987; following his retirement from the military, he teamed up with |
---|
17 | 18 | | the Abilene Preservation League to renovate the Compton Building, |
---|
18 | 19 | | which he converted into an upscale restaurant; the opening of |
---|
19 | 20 | | Cypress Street Station in 1993 was an important step in the |
---|
20 | 21 | | revitalization of downtown Abilene, and the business was such a |
---|
21 | 22 | | success that Mr. Green later added Abilene Brewing Company, the |
---|
22 | 23 | | first brewery in the area; and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to his adopted hometown, Mr. Green gave |
---|
24 | 25 | | generously of his time and talents to a number of worthwhile |
---|
25 | 26 | | organizations, including the Abilene Youth Sports Authority, the |
---|
26 | 27 | | Abilene Chamber of Commerce, the Hendrick Medical Center |
---|
27 | 28 | | Foundation, and the Paramount Theatre; in addition, he brought the |
---|
28 | 29 | | Texas HOG motorcycle rally to Abilene as president of the Abilene |
---|
29 | 30 | | Convention and Visitors Bureau, and he worked with the city's |
---|
30 | 31 | | cultural affairs council to organize the Broadway in Abilene |
---|
31 | 32 | | series; a member of the Texas Restaurant Association and its |
---|
32 | 33 | | Abilene chapter, he was also instrumental in the establishment of a |
---|
33 | 34 | | culinary school in the city; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Caring and compassionate, Mr. Green took a personal |
---|
35 | 36 | | interest in his employees and others in the community, and he was |
---|
36 | 37 | | always ready to lend a hand to those in need; above all else, he |
---|
37 | 38 | | cherished the time he spent with his beloved daughter, Ryleigh; and |
---|
38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Though it is impossible to gauge the full effect of |
---|
39 | 40 | | one man's life, some people leave their unmistakable mark on the |
---|
40 | 41 | | world as they move through it, and Brian Green was indeed one such |
---|
41 | 42 | | individual; now, therefore, be it |
---|
42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Brian Green and |
---|
44 | 45 | | extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
---|
45 | 46 | | daughter, Ryleigh Ann Green; to his brothers, Robert J. Green Jr. |

46 | 47 | | and his wife, Marcy, Jeffrey A. Green and his wife, Cathy, and John |

47 | 48 | | T. Green and his wife, Angie; to his nieces, Cara, Elyse, and |

48 | 49 | | Jacquelin; to his nephews, Nick, Dylan, Gabriel, and Mason; to his |
