45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may help
67 comfort the loved ones of Dr. Karen Hicks-Alldredge of Sweetwater,
78 who passed away on March 9, 2015, at the age of 62; and
89 WHEREAS, Karen Hicks was born on March 19, 1952, to Delores
910 Audis and Orville Hicks in Farmington, New Mexico; she grew up in
1011 Window Rock, Arizona, in the Navajo Nation, and graduated from high
1112 school in Aberdeen, South Dakota; after earning a degree in
1213 environmental science and chemistry from Northern State University
1314 in 1974, she went to work for the South Dakota Parks and Wildlife
1415 Department; and
1516 WHEREAS, In 1983, she obtained her doctoral degree in
1617 veterinary medicine from Iowa State University and began practicing
1718 in Midland; additionally, she participated in graduate programs in
1819 theriogenology at the University of Illinois and at Texas A&M
1920 University; she moved to Sweetwater in 1993 and worked alongside
2021 her husband, Dr. Bud Alldredge, at Sweetwater Veterinary Hospital,
2122 where she was known for the kindness that she showed to both animals
2223 and their owners; and
2324 WHEREAS, Dr. Hicks-Alldredge was committed to serving her
2425 community as well; she led her local Rotary Club for a term as
2526 president and was honored by the organization as a Paul Harris
2627 Fellow; she was also devoted to her faith as a member of the
2728 Presbyterian Church; and
2829 WHEREAS, A professional of great skill and compassion, Karen
2930 Hicks-Alldredge touched countless lives, and she will forever hold
3031 a treasured place in the hearts of those she leaves behind; now,
3132 therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3334 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Karen
3435 Hicks-Alldredge and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her
3536 family: to her husband, Dr. Bud E. Alldredge Jr.; to her parents,
3637 Delores Audis and Orville Hicks; to her siblings, Sherry Hirsch and
3738 her husband, V. J., Jim Hicks and his wife, Deb, and Gary Hicks and
3839 his wife, Deb; to her stepchildren, Dr. Bud E. Alldredge III and his
3940 wife, Kelly, and Michelle LaMendola and her husband, Tom; to her
4041 step-grandchildren, Isabella and Nicholas LaMendola, Chase
4142 Alldredge, Melissa Primeaux and her husband, Jonathan, Dillion
4243 Martin and his wife, Crystal, and Courtney Porter; to her nieces and
4344 nephews, John Hirsch and his wife, Candice, Samantha Goodman and
4445 her husband, Kevin, Tara Knapp and her husband, Craig, Alicia
4546 Malstrom and her husband, Stephen, James, Tara, and Eli Hicks, and
4647 Tanya Tubbs; to her five step-great-grandchildren; and to her other
4748 relatives and friends; and, be it further
4849 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4950 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
5051 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Karen
5152 Hicks-Alldredge.
