| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Arlington Police Department has achieved |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, From 2013 to 2014, the overall crime rate in |

| 8 | 9 | | Arlington has dropped nine percent, and the historic decrease from |

| 9 | 10 | | 2009 to 2014 was 33 percent; particularly large reductions were |

| 10 | 11 | | seen in 2014 in homicides, which fell by almost 28 percent since the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | previous year, and burglaries, which shrank by about 22 percent; |

| 12 | 13 | | and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The Arlington Police Department is committed to a |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | geographic-policing philosophy that proactively addresses crime |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | and the fear of crime by building positive relationships between |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | citizens and beat officers in the neighborhoods; during 2014, the |

| 17 | 18 | | department collaborated with numerous volunteer groups, including |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | the Arlington Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Hispanic Citizens Police Academy Alumni, Citizens on Patrol, and |

| 20 | 21 | | 225 Community Watch groups; and |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Under the skilled leadership of Chief Will Johnson, |

| 22 | 23 | | the Arlington Police Department works tirelessly to protect and |

| 23 | 24 | | serve the public, and its most recent statistics reflect an |

| 24 | 25 | | unyielding dedication to the safety, security, and well-being of |

| 26 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 27 | 28 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Arlington Police Department on |

| 29 | 30 | | staff, and administration sincere best wishes for continued success |
