5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Medina County judge James E. Barden retired on |

6 | 7 | | December 31, 2014, concluding more than a decade of exemplary |

7 | 8 | | service to his fellow citizens; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, After graduating with both a bachelor of business |
---|
9 | 10 | | administration degree and a juris doctor degree from The University |
---|
10 | 11 | | of Texas at Austin, Jim Barden operated a private practice for three |
---|
11 | 12 | | years and went on to enjoy a career in corporate law spanning three |
---|
12 | 13 | | decades at Southwestern Bell and AT&T, where he was eventually |
---|
13 | 14 | | promoted to vice president of law and government affairs; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Elected county judge in 2002, Judge Barden ably |
---|
15 | 16 | | managed the county budget, bolstered subdivision rules and |
---|
16 | 17 | | regulations, and assisted in the acquisition of new government |
---|
17 | 18 | | office space by purchasing and renovating existing buildings; he |
---|
18 | 19 | | also supported the foundation stabilization project for the county |
---|
19 | 20 | | courthouse and helped the Medina County Nutrition Program gain |
---|
20 | 21 | | nonprofit status; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Long committed to the betterment of his community, |
---|
22 | 23 | | this dynamic Texan previously served with distinction for seven |
---|
23 | 24 | | years as mayor of his hometown of Hondo, and he has given generously |
---|
24 | 25 | | of his time and talents as a trustee of the Hill Country Mental |
---|
25 | 26 | | Health Developmental Disabilities Centers and as a member of the |
---|
26 | 27 | | board of directors of the Alamo Area Council of Governments and the |
---|
27 | 28 | | Alamo Area Development Corporation; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Retirement will afford Judge Barden the opportunity |
---|
29 | 30 | | to spend more time with his treasured family, including his wife of |
---|
30 | 31 | | 57 years, Bebe Barden, and his four children and seven |
---|
31 | 32 | | grandchildren, as well as to indulge in his favorite leisure |
---|
32 | 33 | | activities of ranching, hunting, fishing, and reading; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Judge Barden has made a positive difference in the |
---|
34 | 35 | | lives of countless Medina County residents, and his dedication, |
---|
35 | 36 | | leadership, and public spirit will be a continuing source of |
---|
36 | 37 | | inspiration in the years ahead; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
---|
38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable James E. Barden on |
---|
39 | 40 | | his retirement as Medina County judge and extend to him sincere best |
---|
40 | 41 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |
---|
41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

42 | 43 | | prepared for Judge Barden as an expression of high regard by the |
