45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Medina County judge James E. Barden retired on
67 December 31, 2014, concluding more than a decade of exemplary
78 service to his fellow citizens; and
89 WHEREAS, After graduating with both a bachelor of business
910 administration degree and a juris doctor degree from The University
1011 of Texas at Austin, Jim Barden operated a private practice for three
1112 years and went on to enjoy a career in corporate law spanning three
1213 decades at Southwestern Bell and AT&T, where he was eventually
1314 promoted to vice president of law and government affairs; and
1415 WHEREAS, Elected county judge in 2002, Judge Barden ably
1516 managed the county budget, bolstered subdivision rules and
1617 regulations, and assisted in the acquisition of new government
1718 office space by purchasing and renovating existing buildings; he
1819 also supported the foundation stabilization project for the county
1920 courthouse and helped the Medina County Nutrition Program gain
2021 nonprofit status; and
2122 WHEREAS, Long committed to the betterment of his community,
2223 this dynamic Texan previously served with distinction for seven
2324 years as mayor of his hometown of Hondo, and he has given generously
2425 of his time and talents as a trustee of the Hill Country Mental
2526 Health Developmental Disabilities Centers and as a member of the
2627 board of directors of the Alamo Area Council of Governments and the
2728 Alamo Area Development Corporation; and
2829 WHEREAS, Retirement will afford Judge Barden the opportunity
2930 to spend more time with his treasured family, including his wife of
3031 57 years, Bebe Barden, and his four children and seven
3132 grandchildren, as well as to indulge in his favorite leisure
3233 activities of ranching, hunting, fishing, and reading; and
3334 WHEREAS, Judge Barden has made a positive difference in the
3435 lives of countless Medina County residents, and his dedication,
3536 leadership, and public spirit will be a continuing source of
3637 inspiration in the years ahead; now, therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3839 Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable James E. Barden on
3940 his retirement as Medina County judge and extend to him sincere best
4041 wishes for the future; and, be it further
4142 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4243 prepared for Judge Barden as an expression of high regard by the
4344 Texas House of Representatives.
