| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A 65th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of |

| 6 | 7 | | mutual devotion and shared experiences, and Chester and Rosella |

| 7 | 8 | | Balzen of Hondo marked this joyous milestone in their marriage on |

| 8 | 9 | | March 19, 2015; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The former Rosella Lavinia Waits first met Chester |

| 10 | 11 | | William Balzen when she was 9 and he was 15; although she was not |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | initially impressed, he seemed to have improved some years later, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | when he returned from a tour of duty in Italy with the United States |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Army; the couple were joined in matrimony in 1950 at a ceremony held |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | at the Natalia Baptist Church, and through the years, they were |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | blessed with three treasured children, Corliss, Elizabeth, and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Charles; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Early in their marriage, Mr. Balzen attended a |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | G.I. job-training program and worked part-time for a local farmer; |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | he went on to find employment as an airplane mechanic before |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | embarking on a career with Universal Rundle that spanned more than |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | three decades before his retirement; while devoting herself to her |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | home and family, Mrs. Balzen also worked at times as a cashier, |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | dental assistant, florist, and office supply salesperson; today, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | she expresses her artistic talent through her small craft business; |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Balzen are active in their church, and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Mrs. Balzen also volunteers with Friends of the Library; she |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | previously served as a member of the PTA, as a Campfire Girls |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | leader, and as a Cub Scouts den mother; Mr. Balzen was a scoutmaster |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | and a longtime Little League coach; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Chester and Rosella Balzen have enjoyed 65 years of |

| 32 | 33 | | abiding love and affection for each other, and they are among an |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting |

| 34 | 35 | | commitment; now, therefore, be it |

| 35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 36 | 37 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Chester and Rosella Balzen on their |
