| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The City of Pflugerville is celebrating the 50th |

| 6 | 7 | | anniversary of its incorporation in 2015; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Named for Henry Pfluger, a German immigrant who |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | settled in the area with his family in 1853, Pflugerville grew up |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | around a store and post office established by William Bohls in 1860; |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | a small rural community for many years, the town began to see its |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | population climb in the 1960s, and on July 24, 1965, residents voted |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | in favor of incorporation; Pflugerville continued to develop, with |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | the pace picking up rapidly in the 1980s; over the past 50 years, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | the number of inhabitants has risen from 456 to some 54,000, and the |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | city has expanded from three-tenths of a square mile to nearly 23 |

| 16 | 17 | | square miles; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Today, Pflugerville's vibrant downtown business |

| 18 | 19 | | district attracts visitors with its small-town charm, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | pedestrian-friendly character, and a variety of yearly events; the |

| 20 | 21 | | Heritage House Museum promotes and preserves the city's rich |

| 21 | 22 | | history, while the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation |

| 22 | 23 | | works to advance the town's prosperity; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Lake Pflugerville was built as a reservoir and has |

| 24 | 25 | | since become a popular attraction for outdoor enthusiasts, offering |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | opportunities for fishing, swimming, jogging, canoeing, and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | windsurfing; residents also enjoy the city's numerous parks, |

| 27 | 28 | | trails, and recreational facilities; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, In celebration of the 50th anniversary of its |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | incorporation, the City of Pflugerville has planned a number of |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | events, including a historic photo display during the Spring Pfling |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | in March, a Pfirecracker Pfestival in July, and a special library |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | book club reading of popular selections from 1965; on July 24 the |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | city is hosting the Pflugerville Pfiftieth Birthday Party at |

| 34 | 35 | | Pfluger Park, complete with live music, a 1965-era car show, |

| 36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Honoring their past as they work to build a bright |

| 37 | 38 | | future, the citizens of Pflugerville may indeed take great pride in |

| 38 | 39 | | their hometown as they celebrate this significant milestone; now, |

| 40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 41 | 42 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the City of Pflugerville on the |
