45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, April 8, 2015, is Parent Association for the
67 Retarded of Texas Day at the State Capitol, and the occasion
78 provides a fitting opportunity to honor the group for its
89 outstanding work; and
910 WHEREAS, The Parent Association for the Retarded of Texas is
1011 an organization of volunteers who promote quality services and are
1112 dedicated to preserving, improving, and expanding services for
1213 persons with intellectual disabilities; and
1314 WHEREAS, The members of the Parent Association for the
1415 Retarded of Texas present the viewpoint of families, guardians, and
1516 friends to the Department of Aging and Disability Services, the
1617 state legislature, Congress, and the general public; and
1718 WHEREAS, This association is well known for the support it
1819 offers to employees of state facilities and for its advocacy of new
1920 programs to meet the unique needs of persons with intellectual
2021 disabilities; and
2122 WHEREAS, Members of the Parent Association for the Retarded
2223 of Texas are involved in the development of programs for persons
2324 with mental retardation, and through the years they have fought
2425 vigorously for improved state schools, state centers, special
2526 education, and community mental health and mental retardation
2627 centers; and
2728 WHEREAS, Today, the Parent Association for the Retarded of
2829 Texas continues to protect people with intellectual disabilities
2930 and tenaciously places responsibility on caregivers to maintain
3031 standards for quality care; the organization addresses such issues
3132 as fiscal accountability and special population needs; and
3233 WHEREAS, The services provided by the Parent Association for
3334 the Retarded of Texas have been vital to the welfare of countless
3435 Texans, and members of the association are truly worthy of special
3536 commendation for their exceptional efforts and notable
3637 accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3839 Legislature hereby recognize April 8, 2015, as Parent Association
3940 for the Retarded of Texas Day at the State Capitol and extend to all
4041 those participating best wishes for an informative and enjoyable
4142 event.
