| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, April 8, 2015, is Parent Association for the |

| 6 | 7 | | Retarded of Texas Day at the State Capitol, and the occasion |

| 7 | 8 | | provides a fitting opportunity to honor the group for its |

| 8 | 9 | | outstanding work; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The Parent Association for the Retarded of Texas is |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | an organization of volunteers who promote quality services and are |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | dedicated to preserving, improving, and expanding services for |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | persons with intellectual disabilities; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Parent Association for the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Retarded of Texas present the viewpoint of families, guardians, and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | friends to the Department of Aging and Disability Services, the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | state legislature, Congress, and the general public; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, This association is well known for the support it |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | offers to employees of state facilities and for its advocacy of new |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | programs to meet the unique needs of persons with intellectual |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | disabilities; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Parent Association for the Retarded |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | of Texas are involved in the development of programs for persons |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | with mental retardation, and through the years they have fought |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | vigorously for improved state schools, state centers, special |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | education, and community mental health and mental retardation |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | centers; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Today, the Parent Association for the Retarded of |

| 28 | 29 | | Texas continues to protect people with intellectual disabilities |

| 29 | 30 | | and tenaciously places responsibility on caregivers to maintain |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | standards for quality care; the organization addresses such issues |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | as fiscal accountability and special population needs; and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, The services provided by the Parent Association for |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | the Retarded of Texas have been vital to the welfare of countless |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | Texans, and members of the association are truly worthy of special |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | commendation for their exceptional efforts and notable |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 8, 2015, as Parent Association |

| 39 | 40 | | for the Retarded of Texas Day at the State Capitol and extend to all |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | those participating best wishes for an informative and enjoyable |
