No. 1842 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of DeWitt Monroe Jones Jr. of Rio Grande City, who died on March 11, 2015, at the age of 73; and WHEREAS, Known affectionately as "Chachi," Mr. Jones was born in Rio Grande City on September 22, 1941, to DeWitt Jones and Trinidad Lopez; he was joined in marriage to Rafaela Ozuna, and the couple were blessed with 12 children, DeWitt, Rose Marie, Alicia, Robert, Mary Ann, Dave, Knox, Edward, Lillian, Carlos, Becky, and DeWitt Chachi; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jones owned two small businesses in the area, Chachi's Wrecker Express and Chachi's Express Mart, but he was perhaps best known for his work as a public servant; for 16 years, from 1982 to 1998, he served as the Starr County justice of the peace for Precinct 6; he further contributed to his community as president of the Union Water Supply Corporation board of trustees and as a member of the Colonia Resident Advisory Committee; in his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing on the Rio Grande; and WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a dedicated community leader, Chachi Jones led a full and generous life, and he leaves behind a record of service that his loved ones can remember with pride; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of DeWitt Monroe Jones Jr. and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Rafaela Ozuna Jones; to his children, DeWitt Jones and his wife, Leticia, Rose Marie Lopez and her husband, Manuel, Alicia Anaya and her husband, Teodoro, Robert Knox Jones, Mary Ann Chiquito and her husband, Concepcion, Dave Jones and his wife, Esmeralda, Knox Jones, Edward Jones and his wife, Alice, Lillian Knox Maldonado and her husband, Victor, Carlos Canchola, Becky Plata and her husband, Ricardo, and DeWitt Chachi Jones; to his siblings, Bonnie DeWitt Jones, Minnietta Jones, Tommie Jones, Shirley J. Correa, Branch Jones, and Jack Jones; to his 34 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of DeWitt Monroe "Chachi" Jones Jr.
