45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Melinda Martinez, an outstanding student at Texas
67 A&M University--Corpus Christi, has deservedly been named a 2015
78 USDA graduate fellow; and
89 WHEREAS, USDA graduate fellows are pursuing master's degrees
910 in agriculture, biology, or sustainable food systems; Ms. Lopez was
1011 one of only 20 honorees from across the nation chosen to attend a
1112 Career Preparation Institute in March that was held in conjunction
1213 with the National Conference of the American Association of
1314 Hispanics in Higher Education; and
1415 WHEREAS, After earning a bachelor's degree in marine and
1516 freshwater biology from The University of Texas at Austin,
1617 Ms. Martinez served as a research assistant at Centro Ecológico
1718 Akumal in Quintana Roo, Mexico, where she aided sea grass
1819 conservation efforts for marine protected areas and helped develop
1920 a sea grass monitoring program in Puerto Morelos; today, she is
2021 working toward a master's degree in environmental science at
2122 TAMU--CC by researching short-term wetland sediment accretion
2223 rates on Mustang Island at the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of
2324 Mexico Studies; in addition, she gives generously of her time and
2425 talents in behalf of the Texas High School Coastal Monitoring
2526 Program, which teaches area students how to measure beach profiles
2627 and observe the beach and dune environment; and
2728 WHEREAS, This talented individual has distinguished herself
2829 through her hard work and dedication, and her ongoing commitment to
2930 excellence truly heralds a future bright with promise; now,
3031 therefore, be it
3132 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3233 Legislature hereby congratulate Melinda Martinez on her selection
3334 as a 2015 USDA graduate fellow and extend to her sincere best wishes
3435 for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further
3536 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3637 prepared for Ms. Martinez as an expression of high regard by the
3738 Texas House of Representatives.
