| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Mayra Lopez, an outstanding student at Texas A&M |

| 6 | 7 | | University--Corpus Christi, has deservedly been named a 2015 USDA |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, USDA graduate fellows are pursuing master's degrees |

| 9 | 10 | | in agriculture, biology, or sustainable food systems; Ms. Lopez was |

| 10 | 11 | | one of only 20 honorees from across the nation chosen to attend a |

| 11 | 12 | | Career Preparation Institute in March that was held in conjunction |

| 12 | 13 | | with the National Conference of the American Association of |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Hispanics in Higher Education; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Since earning a bachelor's degree in environmental |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | science from TAMU--CC in 2011, Ms. Lopez has worked toward a |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | master's degree in that discipline and has served as a graduate |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | research assistant at the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of |

| 18 | 19 | | Mexico Studies, where her work has focused on understanding |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | socioeconomic processes and their effects on environmental |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | education, management, and policy; in addition, she has given |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | generously of her time and talents in behalf of several community |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | outreach events that encourage underprivileged youths to pursue |

| 23 | 24 | | higher education in science, technology, engineering, and math; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, This talented individual has distinguished herself |

| 25 | 26 | | through her hard work and dedication, and her ongoing commitment to |

| 26 | 27 | | excellence truly heralds a future bright with promise; now, |
