| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The College Republicans at Texas is marking a |

| 6 | 7 | | significant milestone in its history with the celebration of its |

| 7 | 8 | | 65th anniversary in 2015; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, One of the oldest political organizations on The |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | University of Texas at Austin campus, the group was established on |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | January 1, 1950, to engage and educate students while advancing the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | principles of the Republican Party; it is recognized as a federated |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | chapter of the Texas College Republicans and the College Republican |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | National Committee; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Members attend weekly meetings to connect with |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | public officials and increase their knowledge of important issues |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | of the day; in recent years, the group has been fortunate to host |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | such speakers as State Comptroller Susan Combs, Lieutenant Governor |

| 18 | 19 | | David Dewhurst, and Karl Rove; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Led by Amy Nabozny and Andrew Jackson during the |

| 20 | 21 | | 2014-2015 school year, the organization is active in political |

| 21 | 22 | | campaigns, lobbying, party building, and community activism, and it |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | has helped connect members to meaningful internship opportunities; |

| 23 | 24 | | a number of alumni have gone on to successful careers in government |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | and politics, including as consultants, campaign managers, and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | elected officials; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, For well over half a century, the College |

| 27 | 28 | | Republicans at Texas has served as a platform for the expression of |

| 28 | 29 | | conservative views at UT and as a vehicle through which young Texans |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | can develop their potential as the Republican leaders of tomorrow; |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 32 | 33 | | Legislature hereby honor the College Republicans at Texas on the |

| 33 | 34 | | 65th anniversary of its founding and commend the members for their |
