| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Woodlawn Academy, in the San Antonio Independent |

| 6 | 7 | | School District, is celebrating its transition to an academy and |

| 7 | 8 | | the completion of its recent renovations with an open house on April |

| 8 | 9 | | 7, 2015; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding school opened as Woodlawn |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Elementary in 1924, and it moved to its present location in 1930; a |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | new wing was built in the 1990s to accommodate a growing population, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | and in the early 2000s a library and a music room were added; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Beginning with the 2014-2015 school year, the school |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | is transitioning from a prekindergarten through fifth grade |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | elementary school to a prekindergarten through eighth grade math |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | and science academy; the new academy features smaller classes for |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | students, allows more siblings of different ages to attend school |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | together, and enables students and teachers to spend more years |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | together; extracurricular activities include a robotics club, a |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | student-created yearbook, a choir, and a spirit team, as well as a |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | percussion club and a running club; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Thanks to an investment of $11.9 million by the |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | district, this transition includes extensive renovations to the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Woodlawn campus, which now boasts new construction ranging from |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | science and art labs to a band hall, cafetorium and kitchen, and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | courtyard and playgrounds; although extensive in scope, the |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | renovations were designed and executed to preserve the historical |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | character of the school building; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Preparing for the future as it preserves the best of |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | the past, Woodlawn Academy is continuing its 90-year tradition of |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | providing its students with the excellent education they need to |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | become productive and engaged citizens; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the Woodlawn Academy open house and |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | extend to the academy's students, teachers, and parents sincere |

| 36 | 37 | | best wishes for a meaningful and memorable event; and, be it further |

| 37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
