5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and productive life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of Joe E. Sharp on March 9, 2015, at the age of 77; and |

7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of H. E. and Alice Sharp, Joe Sharp was born |
---|
8 | 9 | | in Childress on May 14, 1937; he graduated from Munday High School |
---|
9 | 10 | | and completed his bachelor's degree in accounting at North Texas |
---|
10 | 11 | | State University; after beginning a career in accounting with Peat |
---|
11 | 12 | | Marwick Mitchell and Company, he established his own practice in |
---|
12 | 13 | | Amarillo; and |
---|
13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Sharp embarked on a new path in 1984 with his |
---|
14 | 15 | | acquisition of the First National Bank of Baird; he subsequently |
---|
15 | 16 | | purchased a number of other banks, including First Security Bank of |
---|
16 | 17 | | Beaver, First National Bank of Munday, and First National Bank of |
---|
17 | 18 | | Weatherford; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Sharp's business interests grew |
---|
19 | 20 | | to include a bank holding company, a bank software company, and a |
---|
20 | 21 | | number of other enterprises; he chaired the board of First Bank |
---|
21 | 22 | | Texas, First National Bank of Weatherford, First Security Bank of |
---|
22 | 23 | | Beaver, and First Baird Bancshares, and he served on the board of |
---|
23 | 24 | | the Independent Bankers Association of Texas; in business, as in |
---|
24 | 25 | | every sphere of endeavor, he placed special emphasis on |
---|
25 | 26 | | relationships, demonstrating an exceptional commitment to |
---|
26 | 27 | | employees and customers alike; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan gave generously of his time and |
---|
28 | 29 | | resources to a number of worthy organizations; he served on the |
---|
29 | 30 | | board of Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, and he was an active |
---|
30 | 31 | | member of First Baptist Church of Colleyville; moreover, he was a |
---|
31 | 32 | | faithful partner of the Southwestern and Midwestern Baptist |
---|
32 | 33 | | Theological Seminaries, and he supported numerous charities both |
---|
33 | 34 | | personally and through the banks that he led; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Joe Sharp treasured, above all, the time he spent in |
---|
35 | 36 | | the company of his family and friends, and those he leaves behind |
---|
36 | 37 | | will forever cherish their memories of his kindness, faith, and |
---|
37 | 38 | | devotion; now, therefore, be it |

38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Joe E. Sharp and |

40 | 41 | | extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |

41 | 42 | | wife, Becky Sharp; to his children, Zan Prince and her husband, |

42 | 43 | | Mike, Steve Sharp, Keleigh Greenwood and her husband, Phil, Scott |

43 | 44 | | Sharp and his wife, Amanda, and Justin Sharp and his wife, Nikki; to |

44 | 45 | | his stepson, Tanner Hanley; to his 10 grandsons and 2 |
