45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and productive life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Joe E. Sharp on March 9, 2015, at the age of 77; and
78 WHEREAS, The son of H. E. and Alice Sharp, Joe Sharp was born
89 in Childress on May 14, 1937; he graduated from Munday High School
910 and completed his bachelor's degree in accounting at North Texas
1011 State University; after beginning a career in accounting with Peat
1112 Marwick Mitchell and Company, he established his own practice in
1213 Amarillo; and
1314 WHEREAS, Mr. Sharp embarked on a new path in 1984 with his
1415 acquisition of the First National Bank of Baird; he subsequently
1516 purchased a number of other banks, including First Security Bank of
1617 Beaver, First National Bank of Munday, and First National Bank of
1718 Weatherford; and
1819 WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Sharp's business interests grew
1920 to include a bank holding company, a bank software company, and a
2021 number of other enterprises; he chaired the board of First Bank
2122 Texas, First National Bank of Weatherford, First Security Bank of
2223 Beaver, and First Baird Bancshares, and he served on the board of
2324 the Independent Bankers Association of Texas; in business, as in
2425 every sphere of endeavor, he placed special emphasis on
2526 relationships, demonstrating an exceptional commitment to
2627 employees and customers alike; and
2728 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan gave generously of his time and
2829 resources to a number of worthy organizations; he served on the
2930 board of Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, and he was an active
3031 member of First Baptist Church of Colleyville; moreover, he was a
3132 faithful partner of the Southwestern and Midwestern Baptist
3233 Theological Seminaries, and he supported numerous charities both
3334 personally and through the banks that he led; and
3435 WHEREAS, Joe Sharp treasured, above all, the time he spent in
3536 the company of his family and friends, and those he leaves behind
3637 will forever cherish their memories of his kindness, faith, and
3738 devotion; now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Joe E. Sharp and
4041 extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
4142 wife, Becky Sharp; to his children, Zan Prince and her husband,
4243 Mike, Steve Sharp, Keleigh Greenwood and her husband, Phil, Scott
4344 Sharp and his wife, Amanda, and Justin Sharp and his wife, Nikki; to
4445 his stepson, Tanner Hanley; to his 10 grandsons and 2
4546 great-grandsons; and to his many other relatives and friends; and,
4647 be it further
4748 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4849 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4950 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Joe
5051 E. Sharp.
