H.R. No. 1864 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Betty J. Bush of DeSoto retired from the Dallas Independent School District on January 31, 2015, concluding an exemplary career in education that spanned four and a half decades; and WHEREAS, Passionate about music from an early age, Betty Bush started learning piano at six years old and soon began accompanying the choir at Mount Zion Spiritual Church in Marshall; a member of the H. B. Pemberton High School Class of 1965, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in music from Wiley College in 1969 and went on to earn a master's degree in secondary education and music as well as administrative certification from Texas A&M University--Commerce; and WHEREAS, Ms. Bush started her career as a music teacher in Las Vegas in 1970, and the following year, she returned to Texas to join Dallas ISD, where she was a choir instructor for seven years at John B. Hood Middle School and subsequently taught in the gifted and talented program at Barbara Jordan and Stevens Park Elementary Schools; in 1978, she commenced a 27-year tenure as choir director at T. W. Browne Middle School, and she went on to teach at D. A. Hulcy Middle School and Bayles Elementary School; and WHEREAS, In addition to guiding the artistic development of generations of students, this esteemed Texan held a number of leadership positions in the school district, and she has further distinguished herself through her community involvement; in all of her endeavors, she is blessed with the love and support of her two children, Patrick and Jean; and WHEREAS, Betty Bush has served as an inspiring mentor, motivator, and role model to countless young Texans, instilling in them a love of music and an enduring commitment to excellence, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well-spent as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Betty J. Bush on her retirement from the Dallas Independent School District and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Bush as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
