5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Betty J. Bush of DeSoto retired from the Dallas |

6 | 7 | | Independent School District on January 31, 2015, concluding an |

7 | 8 | | exemplary career in education that spanned four and a half decades; |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Passionate about music from an early age, Betty Bush |

10 | 11 | | started learning piano at six years old and soon began accompanying |

11 | 12 | | the choir at Mount Zion Spiritual Church in Marshall; a member of |
---|
12 | 13 | | the H. B. Pemberton High School Class of 1965, she graduated with a |
---|
13 | 14 | | bachelor's degree in music from Wiley College in 1969 and went on to |
---|
14 | 15 | | earn a master's degree in secondary education and music as well as |
---|
15 | 16 | | administrative certification from Texas A&M University--Commerce; |
---|

17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Bush started her career as a music teacher in |

18 | 19 | | Las Vegas in 1970, and the following year, she returned to Texas to |

19 | 20 | | join Dallas ISD, where she was a choir instructor for seven years at |

20 | 21 | | John B. Hood Middle School and subsequently taught in the gifted and |
---|
21 | 22 | | talented program at Barbara Jordan and Stevens Park Elementary |
---|
22 | 23 | | Schools; in 1978, she commenced a 27-year tenure as choir director |
---|
23 | 24 | | at T. W. Browne Middle School, and she went on to teach at D. A. |

24 | 25 | | Hulcy Middle School and Bayles Elementary School; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, In addition to guiding the artistic development of |
---|
26 | 27 | | generations of students, this esteemed Texan held a number of |
---|
27 | 28 | | leadership positions in the school district, and she has further |
---|
28 | 29 | | distinguished herself through her community involvement; in all of |
---|
29 | 30 | | her endeavors, she is blessed with the love and support of her two |
---|
30 | 31 | | children, Patrick and Jean; and |

31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Betty Bush has served as an inspiring mentor, |
---|
32 | 33 | | motivator, and role model to countless young Texans, instilling in |
---|
33 | 34 | | them a love of music and an enduring commitment to excellence, and |
---|
34 | 35 | | she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well-spent as she |
---|
35 | 36 | | embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be |

37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Betty J. Bush on her retirement |
