45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Betty J. Bush of DeSoto retired from the Dallas
67 Independent School District on January 31, 2015, concluding an
78 exemplary career in education that spanned four and a half decades;
89 and
910 WHEREAS, Passionate about music from an early age, Betty Bush
1011 started learning piano at six years old and soon began accompanying
1112 the choir at Mount Zion Spiritual Church in Marshall; a member of
1213 the H. B. Pemberton High School Class of 1965, she graduated with a
1314 bachelor's degree in music from Wiley College in 1969 and went on to
1415 earn a master's degree in secondary education and music as well as
1516 administrative certification from Texas A&M University--Commerce;
1617 and
1718 WHEREAS, Ms. Bush started her career as a music teacher in
1819 Las Vegas in 1970, and the following year, she returned to Texas to
1920 join Dallas ISD, where she was a choir instructor for seven years at
2021 John B. Hood Middle School and subsequently taught in the gifted and
2122 talented program at Barbara Jordan and Stevens Park Elementary
2223 Schools; in 1978, she commenced a 27-year tenure as choir director
2324 at T. W. Browne Middle School, and she went on to teach at D. A.
2425 Hulcy Middle School and Bayles Elementary School; and
2526 WHEREAS, In addition to guiding the artistic development of
2627 generations of students, this esteemed Texan held a number of
2728 leadership positions in the school district, and she has further
2829 distinguished herself through her community involvement; in all of
2930 her endeavors, she is blessed with the love and support of her two
3031 children, Patrick and Jean; and
3132 WHEREAS, Betty Bush has served as an inspiring mentor,
3233 motivator, and role model to countless young Texans, instilling in
3334 them a love of music and an enduring commitment to excellence, and
3435 she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well-spent as she
3536 embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be
3637 it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3839 Legislature hereby congratulate Betty J. Bush on her retirement
3940 from the Dallas Independent School District and extend to her
4041 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4142 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4243 prepared for Ms. Bush as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4344 House of Representatives.
