 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The 15th annual Black History Art Show was held in El
 Paso in February 2015 in celebration of Black History Month; and
 WHEREAS, For 15 years, the Eta Pi Omega chapter of the Alpha
 Kappa Alpha Sorority has partnered with the Ysleta Independent
 School District to organize the Black History Art Show; originally
 limited to a single high school, the exhibition has since grown to
 include three El Paso school districts, with more than 30
 parochial, elementary, junior high, and high schools
 participating; the show took place in La Galería de la Misión de
 Senecú, giving students the experience of displaying their work in
 a real art museum; and
 WHEREAS, Under the expert guidance of Jackie Beard, the chair
 of the Black History Art Show, the exhibit offers fresh
 perspectives on well-known historical figures and events while also
 raising awareness of forgotten or undervalued individuals who have
 had an important impact in a particular field of endeavor; and
 WHEREAS, The Black History Art Show enables students to
 engage in a creative learning opportunity while gaining a greater
 appreciation of the countless ways African Americans have helped to
 shape this state and nation; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the 15th annual Black History Art
 Show in El Paso and honor the Eta Pi Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa
 Alpha Sorority and the Ysleta Independent School District for their
 contributions to this event.
