 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Commander Gomecindo Lopez retired from the El Paso
 County Sheriff's Office in January 2015, drawing to a close a
 notable career in law enforcement that spanned nearly three
 decades; and
 WHEREAS, A 1979 graduate of Fabens High School, Commander
 Lopez joined the sheriff's office in September 1985 as a detention
 officer, becoming one of the first floor control officers and
 special response team members in the department's detention
 facility; and
 WHEREAS, Over the course of his exemplary 29-year tenure,
 Commander Lopez was promoted to positions of increasing
 responsibility, becoming a deputy sheriff, a detective, and a
 deputy sergeant; and
 WHEREAS, Promoted to deputy lieutenant in 2005, this
 outstanding peace officer was manager of the Commission on
 Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies in the administrative
 section of the sheriff's office, and in 2008, he was promoted to
 commander of the special operations bureau; he later moved to the
 internal affairs bureau, from with he retired, having previously
 served with distinction in the patrol and criminal investigation
 divisions; and
 WHEREAS, Commander Lopez received his master peace officer's
 certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer
 Standards and Education, and he holds a bachelor's degree in
 management and human resources from Park University; he is also a
 2000 graduate of the FBI National Academy; and
 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Commander Lopez has enjoyed
 the love and support of his wife, Lupe Lopez, as well as that of his
 five children and four grandchildren; and
 WHEREAS, Commander Lopez's dedication and professionalism
 have greatly benefited the citizens of El Paso County and earned him
 the respect and admiration of his fellow officers, and he may indeed
 reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on the next
 exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Commander Gomecindo Lopez on his
 retirement from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and extend to
 him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Commander Lopez as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
