| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Commander Gomecindo Lopez retired from the El Paso |

| 6 | 7 | | County Sheriff's Office in January 2015, drawing to a close a |

| 7 | 8 | | notable career in law enforcement that spanned nearly three |

| 8 | 9 | | decades; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A 1979 graduate of Fabens High School, Commander |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Lopez joined the sheriff's office in September 1985 as a detention |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | officer, becoming one of the first floor control officers and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | special response team members in the department's detention |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | facility; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his exemplary 29-year tenure, |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Commander Lopez was promoted to positions of increasing |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | responsibility, becoming a deputy sheriff, a detective, and a |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | deputy sergeant; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Promoted to deputy lieutenant in 2005, this |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | outstanding peace officer was manager of the Commission on |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies in the administrative |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | section of the sheriff's office, and in 2008, he was promoted to |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | commander of the special operations bureau; he later moved to the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | served with distinction in the patrol and criminal investigation |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | divisions; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Commander Lopez received his master peace officer's |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Standards and Education, and he holds a bachelor's degree in |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | management and human resources from Park University; he is also a |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | 2000 graduate of the FBI National Academy; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Commander Lopez has enjoyed |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | the love and support of his wife, Lupe Lopez, as well as that of his |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | five children and four grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Commander Lopez's dedication and professionalism |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | have greatly benefited the citizens of El Paso County and earned him |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | the respect and admiration of his fellow officers, and he may indeed |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on the next |

| 38 | 39 | | exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |

| 39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 40 | 41 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Commander Gomecindo Lopez on his |

| 41 | 42 | | retirement from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and extend to |

| 42 | 43 | | him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
