45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Commander Gomecindo Lopez retired from the El Paso
67 County Sheriff's Office in January 2015, drawing to a close a
78 notable career in law enforcement that spanned nearly three
89 decades; and
910 WHEREAS, A 1979 graduate of Fabens High School, Commander
1011 Lopez joined the sheriff's office in September 1985 as a detention
1112 officer, becoming one of the first floor control officers and
1213 special response team members in the department's detention
1314 facility; and
1415 WHEREAS, Over the course of his exemplary 29-year tenure,
1516 Commander Lopez was promoted to positions of increasing
1617 responsibility, becoming a deputy sheriff, a detective, and a
1718 deputy sergeant; and
1819 WHEREAS, Promoted to deputy lieutenant in 2005, this
1920 outstanding peace officer was manager of the Commission on
2021 Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies in the administrative
2122 section of the sheriff's office, and in 2008, he was promoted to
2223 commander of the special operations bureau; he later moved to the
23- internal affairs bureau, from which he retired, having previously
24+ internal affairs bureau, from with he retired, having previously
2425 served with distinction in the patrol and criminal investigation
2526 divisions; and
2627 WHEREAS, Commander Lopez received his master peace officer's
2728 certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer
2829 Standards and Education, and he holds a bachelor's degree in
2930 management and human resources from Park University; he is also a
3031 2000 graduate of the FBI National Academy; and
3132 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Commander Lopez has enjoyed
3233 the love and support of his wife, Lupe Lopez, as well as that of his
3334 five children and four grandchildren; and
3435 WHEREAS, Commander Lopez's dedication and professionalism
3536 have greatly benefited the citizens of El Paso County and earned him
3637 the respect and admiration of his fellow officers, and he may indeed
3738 reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on the next
3839 exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
3940 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
4041 Legislature hereby congratulate Commander Gomecindo Lopez on his
4142 retirement from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and extend to
4243 him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
4344 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4445 prepared for Commander Lopez as an expression of high regard by the
4546 Texas House of Representatives.
