5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The El Paso Community Foundation is leading the |

6 | 7 | | drive to raise an additional $10 million for the planned children's |

7 | 8 | | museum, and it is indeed appropriate to honor this noteworthy |
---|
8 | 9 | | organization for its enduring commitment to the city; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, In 1977, the foundation was established as a |
---|
10 | 11 | | permanent endowment for the long-term benefit of the area, |
---|
11 | 12 | | including far West Texas, southern New Mexico, and northern |
---|
12 | 13 | | Chihuahua, Mexico; it promotes local philanthropy and serves as a |
---|
13 | 14 | | grant maker and convener, offering resources and expertise in |
---|
14 | 15 | | charitable giving to donors, nonprofit organizations, and members |
---|
15 | 16 | | of the community; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The foundation has donated nearly $165 million to |
---|
17 | 18 | | the community since its inception, and it has guided numerous major |
---|
18 | 19 | | initiatives; in 2006, it partnered with the City of El Paso to |
---|
19 | 20 | | restore the Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Centre, which has |
---|
20 | 21 | | received a national Preservation Award from the United States |
---|
21 | 22 | | Department of the Interior; the foundation produces the annual |
---|
22 | 23 | | Plaza Classic Film Festival, which attracts over 40,000 cinema |
---|
23 | 24 | | fans; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Working to ensure that teachers can obtain |
---|
25 | 26 | | much-needed school supplies, the foundation sponsors the Classroom |
---|
26 | 27 | | Fund; the organization's Border Art Residency allows artists to |
---|
27 | 28 | | focus on their work rather than living expenses, and it is |
---|
28 | 29 | | partnering with the City of El Paso in the development of Artspace |
---|
29 | 30 | | El Paso, which will offer affordable housing for artists, as well as |
---|
30 | 31 | | studio and gallery space; and |
---|
31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, El Paso voters approved over $19 million in bonds |
---|
32 | 33 | | for a children's museum in 2012, and by raising additional |
---|
33 | 34 | | financial support, the El Paso Community Foundation is helping to |
---|
34 | 35 | | bring this important project to fruition; and |
---|
35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, the El Paso Community |

36 | 37 | | Foundation has contributed immeasurably to the quality of life in |
---|
37 | 38 | | the region, and its philanthropic leadership sets a sterling |
---|
38 | 39 | | example for all; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
---|
40 | 41 | | Legislature hereby honor the El Paso Community Foundation and |
---|
41 | 42 | | extend to all those associated with the organization sincere best |
---|
42 | 43 | | wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
---|
43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

44 | 45 | | prepared for the foundation as an expression of high regard by the |

45 | 46 | | Texas House of Representatives. |
