45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The El Paso Community Foundation is leading the
67 drive to raise an additional $10 million for the planned children's
78 museum, and it is indeed appropriate to honor this noteworthy
89 organization for its enduring commitment to the city; and
910 WHEREAS, In 1977, the foundation was established as a
1011 permanent endowment for the long-term benefit of the area,
1112 including far West Texas, southern New Mexico, and northern
1213 Chihuahua, Mexico; it promotes local philanthropy and serves as a
1314 grant maker and convener, offering resources and expertise in
1415 charitable giving to donors, nonprofit organizations, and members
1516 of the community; and
1617 WHEREAS, The foundation has donated nearly $165 million to
1718 the community since its inception, and it has guided numerous major
1819 initiatives; in 2006, it partnered with the City of El Paso to
1920 restore the Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Centre, which has
2021 received a national Preservation Award from the United States
2122 Department of the Interior; the foundation produces the annual
2223 Plaza Classic Film Festival, which attracts over 40,000 cinema
2324 fans; and
2425 WHEREAS, Working to ensure that teachers can obtain
2526 much-needed school supplies, the foundation sponsors the Classroom
2627 Fund; the organization's Border Art Residency allows artists to
2728 focus on their work rather than living expenses, and it is
2829 partnering with the City of El Paso in the development of Artspace
2930 El Paso, which will offer affordable housing for artists, as well as
3031 studio and gallery space; and
3132 WHEREAS, El Paso voters approved over $19 million in bonds
3233 for a children's museum in 2012, and by raising additional
3334 financial support, the El Paso Community Foundation is helping to
3435 bring this important project to fruition; and
3536 WHEREAS, Since its inception, the El Paso Community
3637 Foundation has contributed immeasurably to the quality of life in
3738 the region, and its philanthropic leadership sets a sterling
3839 example for all; now, therefore, be it
3940 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
4041 Legislature hereby honor the El Paso Community Foundation and
4142 extend to all those associated with the organization sincere best
4243 wishes for continued success; and, be it further
4344 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4445 prepared for the foundation as an expression of high regard by the
4546 Texas House of Representatives.
