45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Carlos
67 Garcia Jr. of El Paso, who passed away on December 13, 2014, at the
78 age of 58; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Carlos and Carolina Garcia, "Charlie"
910 Garcia graduated in 1975 from Jefferson High School, where he was a
1011 member of the basketball team and an all-district baseball player;
1112 and
1213 WHEREAS, Blessed with a cherished family, Mr. Garcia was
1314 devoted to his wife, Sarah, with whom he shared many years of
1415 marriage, and he took immense pride in his son, Michael; and
1516 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan regularly involved himself in
1617 local politics and gave freely of his time and talents to a number
1718 of worthwhile organizations and causes; he frequently volunteered
1819 his time to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the El Paso
1920 Multiple Sclerosis Association, and his efforts were instrumental
2021 in the establishment of the first local charity golf tournament
2122 benefiting individuals with MS; moreover, he contributed to the
2223 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and served on the Sun Bowl Media
2324 Host Committee; and
2425 WHEREAS, In his leisure time, Mr. Garcia enjoyed taking care
2526 of his pets, golfing, playing softball, and participating in the
2627 Zapata Sports Club; and
2728 WHEREAS, Deeply committed to his family and his community,
2829 Charlie Garcia made a meaningful difference in the lives of his
2930 loved ones and fellow citizens alike, and those who were fortunate
3031 enough to know him will treasure their memories of his generous,
3132 helpful nature and his friendly smile; now, therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3334 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Carlos Garcia Jr. and
3435 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
3536 Sarah Garcia; to his son, Michael Garcia; to his sisters, Norma
3637 Marin, Bonnie Concha, and Lety Cordero; and to his other relatives
3738 and friends; and, be it further
3839 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3940 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4041 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charlie
4142 Garcia.
