No. 1894 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Anna Matheny is retiring from the Grace Academy of Dallas at the end of the 2014-2015 school year, drawing to a close a notable career in education that has spanned nearly half a century; and WHEREAS, Ms. Matheny earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Miami and began teaching in 1968 with Miami-Dade County Public Schools; she worked there for several years and was later employed at Canyon Creek Christian Academy and the Graham Cracker Express Weekday School in Richardson; and WHEREAS, This accomplished educator joined the faculty at Grace Academy of Dallas as a first-grade teacher in 1988, and over the course of her tenure, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to academic excellence and a willingness to become actively involved in the lives of her students; Ms. Matheny frequently attends the children's extracurricular activities and other important events, even after they leave her classroom and move forward with their lives; moreover, she has enjoyed staying in touch with many of her former pupils and delighting in their successes; and WHEREAS, Respected within her profession, Ms. Matheny was nominated by her peers for the Association of Christian Schools International's Career Service and Achievement Award, in recognition of her many years of dedicated work; and WHEREAS, A caring and compassionate woman, Anna Matheny has made a positive difference in the lives of countless young Texans throughout her 47 years as a teacher, and she may reflect with great pride on her accomplishments as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Anna Matheny on her retirement from the Grace Academy of Dallas and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Matheny as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
