| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Anna Matheny is retiring from the Grace Academy of |

| 6 | 7 | | Dallas at the end of the 2014-2015 school year, drawing to a close a |

| 7 | 8 | | notable career in education that has spanned nearly half a century; |

|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Matheny earned a bachelor's degree from the |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | University of Miami and began teaching in 1968 with Miami-Dade |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | County Public Schools; she worked there for several years and was |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | later employed at Canyon Creek Christian Academy and the Graham |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Cracker Express Weekday School in Richardson; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, This accomplished educator joined the faculty at |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Grace Academy of Dallas as a first-grade teacher in 1988, and over |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | the course of her tenure, she has demonstrated a strong commitment |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | to academic excellence and a willingness to become actively |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | involved in the lives of her students; Ms. Matheny frequently |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | attends the children's extracurricular activities and other |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | important events, even after they leave her classroom and move |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | forward with their lives; moreover, she has enjoyed staying in |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | touch with many of her former pupils and delighting in their |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | successes; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Respected within her profession, Ms. Matheny was |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | nominated by her peers for the Association of Christian Schools |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | International's Career Service and Achievement Award, in |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | recognition of her many years of dedicated work; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, A caring and compassionate woman, Anna Matheny has |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | made a positive difference in the lives of countless young Texans |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | throughout her 47 years as a teacher, and she may reflect with great |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | pride on her accomplishments as she embarks on the next exciting |

| 32 | 33 | | chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Anna Matheny on her retirement from |

| 35 | 36 | | the Grace Academy of Dallas and extend to her sincere best wishes |
