5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close on March |

6 | 7 | | 17, 2015, with the passing of Lawrence John Del Papa Sr. of |

7 | 8 | | Galveston at the age of 86; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born on July 24, 1928, to Omero and Giorgina Del Papa |
---|
9 | 10 | | in Lucca, Italy, Lawrence Del Papa was the youngest of five |
---|
10 | 11 | | children; he moved with his family to Galveston in his youth and |
---|
11 | 12 | | graduated from Kirwin High School before earning a bachelor's |
---|
12 | 13 | | degree in business administration from St. Mary's University in |
---|
13 | 14 | | 1950; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Del Papa had a notable career working in the |
---|
15 | 16 | | family business, Del Papa Distributing Company, which was |
---|
16 | 17 | | established by his father in 1910; prior to his retirement as chair |
---|
17 | 18 | | of the board in 2013, he encouraged expansion of the company's |
---|
18 | 19 | | territory and, today, the business is recognized as one of the most |
---|
19 | 20 | | successful and well-respected beer distributors in the country; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Active in a number of civic and professional |
---|
21 | 22 | | organizations, Mr. Del Papa served as director and vice president |
---|
22 | 23 | | of the Galveston Convention and Visitors Bureau, president of the |
---|
23 | 24 | | Wholesale Beer Distributors of Texas, and director emeritus of |
---|
24 | 25 | | Texas First Bank, among others; furthermore, he was generous in his |
---|
25 | 26 | | support of Catholic charities and education, and he was a lifelong |
---|
26 | 27 | | member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Del Papa enjoyed the love |
---|
28 | 29 | | and support of his wife, Jo Ann, with whom he shared 64 years; he was |
---|
29 | 30 | | the proud father of two children, Laura and Larry, and he cherished |
---|
30 | 31 | | many special moments with his grandchildren, Caylin and L. J.; in |
---|
31 | 32 | | his free time, he enjoyed hosting friends and business associates |
---|
32 | 33 | | at his ranch in the Hill Country; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his |
---|
34 | 35 | | community, Lawrence Del Papa earned the respect and admiration of |
---|
35 | 36 | | all who were privileged to know him, and he will forever be a source |
---|
36 | 37 | | of inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |

37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Lawrence John Del |

39 | 40 | | Papa Sr. and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his |

40 | 41 | | family: to his wife, Jo Ann Del Papa; to his children, Laura Del |
