45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Eugene Mallory of Mineola on August 26, 2014, at the age
78 of 89; and
89 WHEREAS, Gene Mallory was born on May 2, 1925, and after the
910 death of his parents, he was raised by his grandmother, Lula, and
1011 his aunt, Ruth; following his graduation from high school, he
1112 enrolled at Southern Methodist University, but when World War II
1213 intervened, he left school to join the United States Army Air Corps
1314 and was deployed to Central Europe; he went on to resume his studies
1415 at SMU and earned a degree in business in 1948; and
1516 WHEREAS, During the Korean War, Mr. Mallory was again called
1617 to serve his nation in the air force, and on completing his
1718 enlistment, he returned to Mineola and began working as the
1819 secretary-treasurer for Benham & Company; in 1958, he was named the
1920 Mineola postmaster, a position he held for four years; he was
2021 subsequently rehired by Benham & Company, where he remained until
2122 his retirement in 1985; and
2223 WHEREAS, This lifelong Texan was active with a multitude of
2324 civic groups in his community, contributing his talents as
2425 secretary to the Mineola Memorial Library Board, the Mineola
2526 Heritage Association, the Mineola Country Club, and the local
2627 Rotary Club; additionally, he spent time as the Republican county
2728 chair and president of the Tyler Camellia Society, and the Mineola
2829 Historical Museum Board and the town's zoning board also benefited
2930 from his membership; as a valued congregant at St. Dunstan's
3031 Episcopal Church for many years, he taught Sunday school classes
3132 and also served as a junior warden; and
3233 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Mallory enjoyed the
3334 support and affection of his wife, Lou, and he was the proud father
3435 of two children, Bill and Mary; and
3536 WHEREAS, Although Gene Mallory will be deeply missed,
3637 cherished memories of time spent in his company will long endure in
3738 the hearts of his loved ones; now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3940 Legislature pay tribute to the memory of Eugene Mallory and extend
4041 sincere sympathy to his wife, Lou Mallory, to his daughter, Mary
4142 Mallory, and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4243 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4344 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4445 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Eugene
4546 Mallory.
