 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
 death of Orvil Glyn Briggs of Point on September 27, 2014, at the
 age of 88; and
 WHEREAS, Orvil Briggs was born one of 12 children to Thurman
 and Leona Spencer Briggs on October 14, 1925, in Point; answering
 his nation's call to duty, he served in the U.S. Navy during World
 War II and was stationed in the Pacific on the USS Kaskaskia; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Briggs was joined in matrimony to Clodell Cason
 on January 18, 1947, in Alba and shared with her more than 67 years
 of marriage; he was the proud father of a son, Glyn, and adored his
 three grandchildren, Damon, Darrell, and Colleen, and
 great-granddaughter, Adelyn; and
 WHEREAS, Active in civic life, Mr. Briggs served on the Point
 City Council, was a Rains ISD trustee, and was a member of the local
 cemetery committee, the housing authority board, and the water
 board; he sang with the Point United Methodist Church choir, taught
 couples' Sunday school, and held a seat on the church board;
 furthermore, he was a past worshipful master of the Shiloh Lodge
 No. 307 and a past worthy patron of Chapter No. 853 of Eastern Star,
 both in Lone Oak; and
 WHEREAS, The death of Orvil Briggs brings immeasurable sorrow
 to his family and friends, but he leaves behind a legacy that will
 long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be
 it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Orvil Glyn Briggs and
 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
 Clodell Briggs; to his son, Glyn Michael Briggs and his wife, Vicki;
 to his grandchildren, Damon Michael Briggs and his wife, Amber,
 Darrell Sherman Briggs and his wife, Jaime, and Colleen Michelle
 Ramero; to his great-granddaughter, Adelyn Elizabeth Briggs; and to
 his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Orvil Glyn
 Briggs.
