| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

| 6 | 7 | | death of Orvil Glyn Briggs of Point on September 27, 2014, at the |

| 7 | 8 | | age of 88; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Orvil Briggs was born one of 12 children to Thurman |

| 9 | 10 | | and Leona Spencer Briggs on October 14, 1925, in Point; answering |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | his nation's call to duty, he served in the U.S. Navy during World |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | War II and was stationed in the Pacific on the USS Kaskaskia; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Briggs was joined in matrimony to Clodell Cason |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | on January 18, 1947, in Alba and shared with her more than 67 years |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | of marriage; he was the proud father of a son, Glyn, and adored his |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | three grandchildren, Damon, Darrell, and Colleen, and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | great-granddaughter, Adelyn; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Active in civic life, Mr. Briggs served on the Point |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | City Council, was a Rains ISD trustee, and was a member of the local |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | cemetery committee, the housing authority board, and the water |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | board; he sang with the Point United Methodist Church choir, taught |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | couples' Sunday school, and held a seat on the church board; |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | furthermore, he was a past worshipful master of the Shiloh Lodge |

| 23 | 24 | | No. 307 and a past worthy patron of Chapter No. 853 of Eastern Star, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | both in Lone Oak; and |

| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The death of Orvil Briggs brings immeasurable sorrow |

| 26 | 27 | | to his family and friends, but he leaves behind a legacy that will |

| 27 | 28 | | long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
