45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, North Central Texas College--Bowie celebrated the
67 15th anniversary of its opening on March 9, 2015; and
78 WHEREAS, Responding to a need for further educational
89 opportunities in the area, the Bowie City Council created a college
910 task force in 1995; community leaders subsequently partnered with
1011 North Central Texas College, using an economic development sales
1112 tax to fund the construction of a new campus in Bowie; in April
1213 1999, the city broke ground on a 16,000-square-foot building, and
1314 the campus opened its doors for the first time in January of the
1415 following year; and
1516 WHEREAS, In the decade and a half since it welcomed its first
1617 students, NCTC--Bowie has undergone significant expansion, and it
1718 now boasts the resources of a comprehensive community college; in
1819 the summer of 2008, the campus launched an oil-and-gas technology
1920 program, and in 2009, that initiative received a boost with the
2021 opening of a new wing that featured a cutting-edge petroleum
2122 training facility, a library, learning labs, and a Student Success
2223 Center; and
2324 WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of current director Jose
2425 DaSilva, the campus offers a wide variety of programs designed to
2526 equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to enter
2627 into prosperous and fulfilling careers, including technical
2728 training, dual-credit courses, and pathways for transferring to
2829 four-year schools; in addition, the campus serves the local
2930 business community through classes on how to start a company and
3031 through free consultations for local entrepreneurs; furthermore,
3132 the Division of Lifelong Learning provides nontraditional students
3233 with a number of special interest classes as well as training in
3334 computer applications, life skills, and technical trades; and
3435 WHEREAS, By furnishing its students with a solid educational
3536 foundation, North Central Texas College--Bowie is stimulating
3637 economic development in the city and the surrounding vicinity and
3738 increasing the standard of living among area residents, and it is
3839 indeed a privilege to recognize the campus's many contributions to
3940 its community at this time; now, therefore, be it
4041 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
4142 Legislature hereby commemorate the 15th anniversary of North
4243 Central Texas College--Bowie and extend to its administration,
4344 faculty, staff, and students sincere best wishes for continued
4445 success; and, be it further
4546 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4647 prepared for the campus as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4748 House of Representatives.
