| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Friends of the Pound House Foundation is |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, In 1854, Dr. Joseph Pound and his wife, Sarah, |

| 9 | 10 | | finished construction on a dog-trot log cabin in what would later |

| 10 | 11 | | become Dripping Springs, and their home became the central |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | gathering place for the fledgling community, serving as a hospital, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | church, schoolhouse, and post office; the Pound House, as it came to |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | be known, passed through four generations of the Pound family until |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | the property was donated to the City of Dripping Springs in 1987; |

| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The Friends of the Pound House Foundation assumed |

| 17 | 18 | | ownership of the farmstead in 1990 and began the process of |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | restoring and conserving the property; in 2003, the group opened |

| 19 | 20 | | the Dr. Pound Historical Farmstead museum, which provides a |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | historically accurate picture of Texas pioneer life through its |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | collections, educational programs, grounds, and meticulously |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | renovated buildings; in recognition of its historical |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | significance, the farmstead has been designated as a national, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | state, and city historic landmark; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the Friends of the Pound House Foundation |

| 26 | 27 | | hosts the Heritage Gala to raise money for continued maintenance of |

| 27 | 28 | | the museum; held on the Pound House grounds, the event features |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | dinner, live and silent auctions, and dancing; and |

| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, For a quarter-century, the Friends of the Pound |

| 30 | 31 | | House Foundation has managed the Dr. Pound Historical Farmstead for |

| 31 | 32 | | the education and enjoyment of local residents, and its dedicated |

| 32 | 33 | | efforts to preserve and celebrate the area's rich heritage are |

| 33 | 34 | | indeed deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it |

| 34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Friends of the Pound House |

| 36 | 37 | | Foundation on the occasion of its 25th anniversary and extend to its |
