| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Situated along the Brazos River a few miles |

| 9 | 10 | | southwest of Houston, the town was created by real estate promoters |

| 10 | 11 | | R. M. Cash and L. E. Luckle, who called it a "land of genial |

| 11 | 12 | | sunshine and eternal summer"; another promoter, W. R. McElroy, |

| 12 | 13 | | named it Missouri City to attract residents of St. Louis; the |

| 13 | 14 | | self-styled "Show Me City" was originally an agricultural hub for |

| 14 | 15 | | local farmers and ranchers, shipping cotton, corn, cattle, and |

| 15 | 16 | | sugarcane, and oil and natural gas were discovered nearby in the |
