| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Caroline Goodnight, a sophomore at Midway High |

| 6 | 7 | | School in Waco, is providing a positive example for others through |

| 7 | 8 | | her achievements as a candidate for the Congressional Award; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The award was established in 1979 to recognize teens |

| 9 | 10 | | and young adults who challenge themselves while gaining life skills |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | that are necessary for future success; applicants are required to |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | set and attain goals in the areas of volunteer service, physical |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | fitness, and personal development and to plan and carry out a |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | project that tests their self-reliance and ability to adapt to an |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | unfamiliar situation; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Goodnight is a two-time recipient of the Spirit |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | of Midway Award, which honors students who complete 15 hours of |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | community service in addition to participating in extracurricular |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | activities; before setting her sights on the Congressional Award, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | she attended mission trips with her church and volunteered for a |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | number of 5K races; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, This well-rounded young Texan is a member of the |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | cross-country team at Midway, and her interest in running has led |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | her to take part in several marathons, an activity she plans to |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | continue as she satisfies the award's athletic requirements; |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | moreover, she has committed to venturing out on a cycling trip in |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Palo Duro Canyon for her "expedition or exploration" project; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Caroline Goodnight has proven herself to possess the |

| 28 | 29 | | talent, ambition, and determination that are shared by some of our |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | nation's most promising young people, and she is acquiring valuable |

| 30 | 31 | | experience that will serve her well in the years to come; now, |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
