| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, John E. Bierschwale is retiring as deputy city |

| 6 | 7 | | manager of Schertz on September 30, 2015, drawing to a close a |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | distinguished career in municipal government that has spanned 37 |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | years; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Long dedicated to serving his hometown, Johnny |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Bierschwale became a volunteer firefighter at the age of 15, and in |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | 1978, he was hired by the city's streets and parks department and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | was sworn in as a reserve police officer, a role he enjoyed for more |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | than a decade; he went on to be employed by the water department for |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | 13 years and was later promoted to director of public works in July |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | 1993; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Bierschwale was named assistant city manager in |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | 2002 and appointed deputy city manager in 2014; throughout his |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | tenure he has worked tirelessly to advance the common good, and his |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | outstanding efforts have earned him the deep appreciation of |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | colleagues and fellow citizens alike; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Bierschwale has attained |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | numerous certifications from Texas A&M University and Texas State |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | University in such areas as law enforcement, waterworks, safety, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | emergency response, fire service, disaster preparedness, and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | management; in addition, he was presented with the 2010 Steve |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Simonson Community Service Award by the city and the 1994 |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Distinguished Service Award by the Texas Municipal League; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, With his skill, professionalism, and commitment to |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | excellence, Johnny Bierschwale has helped make Schertz an even |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | better place in which to live, and he may reflect with satisfaction |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | on all that he has achieved as he embarks on the next exciting |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby commend John E. Bierschwale on his service with |

| 35 | 36 | | the City of Schertz and extend to him sincere best wishes for the |

| 36 | 37 | | future; and, be it further |
