No. 1988 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Residents of Rockwall are visiting the State Capitol on April 16, 2015, and this occasion presents a welcome opportunity to recognize the city of Rockwall and commend these community leaders for their civic engagement; and WHEREAS, Established in 1854, Rockwall was named for the large stone wall discovered by explorer T. U. Wade while he was digging a well; after the town was incorporated in 1874, the population began to grow, and the arrival of the Missouri, Kansas, and Texas railway line created early opportunities for economic development; and WHEREAS, Aluminum production in the area prompted Rockwall to adopt the slogan "The Aluminum Capital of the Industrial Southwest" in the 1950s, and construction of Lake Ray Hubbard in 1969 led to growth in the recreational and tourism industry; and WHEREAS, Today, Rockwall is home to more than 40,000 Texans who enjoy their community's rich heritage and family-friendly environment; amid plentiful urban amenities, the city retains its small-town charm, highlighted by its historic downtown business district; residents and visitors alike are drawn to The Harbor, a commercial, entertainment, and recreational area situated on the picturesque shores of Lake Ray Hubbard, and the city has numerous park facilities offering a variety of activities and special events; and WHEREAS, Preserving their vibrant past as they work together to build a bright future, the citizens of Rockwall may take justifiable pride in their unique city and in the role it continues to play in the story of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby recognize the city of Rockwall and welcome the visiting delegation of Rockwall residents to the State Capitol.
