| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Rockwall are visiting the State Capitol |

| 6 | 7 | | on April 16, 2015, and this occasion presents a welcome opportunity |

| 7 | 8 | | to recognize the city of Rockwall and commend these community |

| 8 | 9 | | leaders for their civic engagement; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1854, Rockwall was named for the |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | large stone wall discovered by explorer T. U. Wade while he was |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | digging a well; after the town was incorporated in 1874, the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | population began to grow, and the arrival of the Missouri, Kansas, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | and Texas railway line created early opportunities for economic |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | development; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Aluminum production in the area prompted Rockwall to |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | adopt the slogan "The Aluminum Capital of the Industrial Southwest" |

| 17 | 18 | | in the 1950s, and construction of Lake Ray Hubbard in 1969 led to |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | growth in the recreational and tourism industry; and |

| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Today, Rockwall is home to more than 40,000 Texans |

| 20 | 21 | | who enjoy their community's rich heritage and family-friendly |

| 21 | 22 | | environment; amid plentiful urban amenities, the city retains its |

| 22 | 23 | | small-town charm, highlighted by its historic downtown business |

| 23 | 24 | | district; residents and visitors alike are drawn to The Harbor, a |

| 24 | 25 | | commercial, entertainment, and recreational area situated on the |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | picturesque shores of Lake Ray Hubbard, and the city has numerous |

| 26 | 27 | | park facilities offering a variety of activities and special |

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Preserving their vibrant past as they work together |

| 29 | 30 | | to build a bright future, the citizens of Rockwall may take |

| 30 | 31 | | justifiable pride in their unique city and in the role it continues |

| 31 | 32 | | to play in the story of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby recognize the city of Rockwall and welcome the |

| 34 | 35 | | visiting delegation of Rockwall residents to the State Capitol. |
