45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness,
67 compassion, and wisdom of Consuelo Raymond Kazen of Laredo, who
78 passed away on March 22, 2015, at the age of 95; and
89 WHEREAS, The daughter of Manuel Raymond Jr. and Santos Zapata
910 Raymond, the former Connie Raymond was born on May 6, 1919; she was
1011 an educator and an outstanding role model to her students;
1112 following her marriage to Abraham "Chick" Kazen, she became an
1213 exceptionally nurturing mother to her children, Abraham, Norma,
1314 Christina, Catherine, and Jo Betsy, and she eventually knew the joy
1415 of welcoming into her family 11 grandchildren and 11
1516 great-grandchildren; and
1617 WHEREAS, Mrs. Kazen was a staunch Democrat, and after her
1718 husband embarked on a career in public service, she provided
1819 skillful and dedicated support for his efforts as a member of the
1920 Texas Legislature and the United States House of Representatives;
2021 she gave generously of her time and talents to numerous civic and
2122 charitable organizations, among them the Texas Senate Ladies Club,
2223 the Pan American Round Table, the Texas State Teachers Association,
2324 the Society of Martha Washington, and the Congressional Texas State
2425 Society; a devout Catholic, she was a lady in the Equestrian Order
2526 of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem; and
2627 WHEREAS, Connie Kazen lived a rich and purposeful life
2728 centered around her family, her faith, and her community, and she
2829 will long be remembered with deep affection by all who knew her;
2930 now, therefore, be it
3031 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3132 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Consuelo "Connie"
3233 Raymond Kazen and extend sincere condolences to the members of her
3334 family: to her children, Abraham Kazen III, Norma Kazen, Christina
3435 Attal and her husband, Ronny, Catherine Kazen, and Jo Betsy Kazen;
3536 to her sisters, Gloria Woods, Chabela Martinez, and Zita Coffey; to
3637 her brothers, Manuel J. Raymond Jr. and his wife, Angelina, and
3738 Rolando Raymond and his wife, Amada; to her 11 grandchildren and 11
3839 great-grandchildren; and to her many other relatives and friends;
3940 and, be it further
4041 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4142 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4243 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Connie
4344 Kazen.
