| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Autism Society of Central Texas is celebrating |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention |

| 8 | 9 | | estimates that 1 in 68 children in the United States has been |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder; autism is a neurological, |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | developmental disorder that impacts speech, sensory processing, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | and social and emotional behavior; because the depth and severity |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | of symptoms may vary, no two people with autism are alike, and early |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | intervention and treatment are shown to greatly improve long-term |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | outcomes for affected individuals; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A local affiliate of the Autism Society of America, |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | the Autism Society of Central Texas is considered to be the oldest |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | grassroots autism organization in the state; the group is dedicated |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | to supporting and enhancing the quality of life for children and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | adults with autism and their families in a 24-county area, and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | support services provided by the organization include education and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | information, referrals, and recreational opportunities; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, ASCT receives an average of 44 calls every month |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | from families looking for help in navigating their treatment |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | options; additional assistance is offered by the society's online |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | resource guide, and it sponsors monthly get-togethers throughout |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Central Texas where clients can meet face-to-face to encourage one |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | another and share stories and advice; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, For the past quarter-century, the Autism Society of |

| 29 | 30 | | Central Texas has been a vital source of support and hope for |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | countless Texans, and this special milestone in its history |

| 31 | 32 | | provides a fitting opportunity to recognize the life-changing role |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | that it continues to play in the area's autism community; now, |

| 34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
