H.R. No. 2039
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, James Sanchez, a graduate student at Texas A&M
University--Corpus Christi, has received the 2015 Dan Klepper
Memorial Scholarship from the Texas Outdoor Writers Association;
and
WHEREAS, Named for the late Dan Klepper, a founder of the
association and an outdoor journalist for the San Antonio
Express-News, this scholarship supports young writers,
photographers, and other artists who work to educate the public
about the benefits of preserving and protecting the natural
heritage of Texas; Mr. Sanchez was selected from a pool of 17
candidates; and
WHEREAS, James Sanchez holds a bachelor's degree in marine
biology, and he is working toward a master's degree in biology at
A&M--Corpus Christi, studying the effects of invasive mangroves on
the salt marsh ecosystem of the Gulf Coast at the university's
marine ecology laboratory; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sanchez's nature writing has been published
through his internships with Texas Parks and Wildlife and the
Aransas Bay Coastal Fishery Division; a passionate, lifelong
fisherman, he also contributes fishing reports to the Corpus
Christi Caller-Times; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his studies and his writing,
Mr. Sanchez works as a volunteer in public schools; for the last
three years, he has been a teacher's assistant for the
Tuloso-Midway High School science club, sharing his love of the
outdoors with students; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding graduate student is already
contributing to nature writing in the Lone Star State, and his
receipt of this prestigious scholarship portends a bright and
rewarding career; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate James Sanchez on his receipt of the
2015 Dan Klepper Memorial Scholarship and extend to him sincere
best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Sanchez as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
