| 7 | 8 | | Memorial Scholarship from the Texas Outdoor Writers Association; |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Named for the late Dan Klepper, a founder of the |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | association and an outdoor journalist for the San Antonio |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Express-News, this scholarship supports young writers, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | photographers, and other artists who work to educate the public |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | about the benefits of preserving and protecting the natural |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | heritage of Texas; Mr. Sanchez was selected from a pool of 17 |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | candidates; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, James Sanchez holds a bachelor's degree in marine |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | biology, and he is working toward a master's degree in biology at |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | A&M--Corpus Christi, studying the effects of invasive mangroves on |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | the salt marsh ecosystem of the Gulf Coast at the university's |

| 20 | 21 | | marine ecology laboratory; and |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Sanchez's nature writing has been published |

| 22 | 23 | | through his internships with Texas Parks and Wildlife and the |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Aransas Bay Coastal Fishery Division; a passionate, lifelong |

| 24 | 25 | | fisherman, he also contributes fishing reports to the Corpus |

| 25 | 26 | | Christi Caller-Times; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his studies and his writing, |

| 27 | 28 | | Mr. Sanchez works as a volunteer in public schools; for the last |

| 28 | 29 | | three years, he has been a teacher's assistant for the |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | Tuloso-Midway High School science club, sharing his love of the |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | outdoors with students; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding graduate student is already |

| 32 | 33 | | contributing to nature writing in the Lone Star State, and his |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | receipt of this prestigious scholarship portends a bright and |
