45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, James Tippens of Little River-Academy retired from
67 the U.S. Postal Service on January 2, 2015, drawing to a close a
78 notable career as a mail carrier that spanned more than three
89 decades; and
910 WHEREAS, After serving his nation in the U.S. Marine Corps,
1011 Mr. Tippens joined the U.S. Postal Service in December 1981; he
1112 began his exemplary 33-year tenure with the post office in his
1213 hometown of Beeville, and after working in Carlsbad, California, he
1314 returned to Texas and delivered mail in Killeen and Georgetown,
1415 walking more than 30,000 miles over the course of his career; and
1516 WHEREAS, Since 2002, Mr. Tippens had his own route in
1617 downtown Georgetown, where he wore his characteristic shorts in all
1718 weather and delivered the mail with a smile; known for his diligence
1819 and good humor, he earned the respect and affection of the business
1920 owners he served, as well as that of his fellow mail carriers; and
2021 WHEREAS, James Tippens's dedication, kindness, and
2122 commitment to the mission of the U.S. Postal Service have greatly
2223 benefited the people of Georgetown, and he may indeed reflect with
2324 pride on a career well spent as he embarks on the next exciting
2425 chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
2526 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
2627 Legislature hereby congratulate James Tippens on his retirement
2728 from the U.S. Postal Service and extend to him sincere best wishes
2829 for continued happiness; and, be it further
2930 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3031 prepared for Mr. Tippens as an expression of high regard by the
3132 Texas House of Representatives.
