| 8 | 9 | | Quitman was recognized with this rare distinction; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Since beginning his training in Tae Kwon Do in 1980, |

| 10 | 11 | | Mr. Sheffield has earned well-deserved praise for his dedication to |

| 11 | 12 | | this demanding discipline; he was inducted into the USA Martial |

| 12 | 13 | | Arts Hall of Fame as American Tae Kwon Do Instructor of the Year in |

| 13 | 14 | | 2013, and the following year, he was presented with a Silver |

| 14 | 15 | | Lifetime Achievement Award by the hall and a Silver Lifetime |

| 15 | 16 | | Contribution Award by Action Martial Arts Magazine and Hall of |

| 16 | 17 | | Honor; and |

| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Sheffield is retired from a career in law |

| 18 | 19 | | enforcement during which he served as a police lieutenant and a K-9 |

| 19 | 20 | | narcotics officer and received numerous commendations and |

| 20 | 21 | | accolades; in addition, he has helped train police officers across |

| 21 | 22 | | the state in defensive tactics and has been featured in episodes of |

| 22 | 23 | | COPS and Walker, Texas Ranger; in 2011, he opened the Quitman Karate |

| 23 | 24 | | Academy, where he continues to share his expertise as a Tae Kwon Do |

| 24 | 25 | | instructor; and |

| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, David Sheffield has made immeasurable contributions |

| 26 | 27 | | to his sport and to his fellow citizens through a lifetime of |

| 27 | 28 | | purposeful endeavor, and he may take justifiable pride in his |

| 28 | 29 | | recent black belt achievement; now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
