No. 2083 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the death of Doris Bhael Clements of Hideaway on December 6, 2014, at the age of 100; and WHEREAS, The former Dorothy Bhael was born in Beebe, Arkansas, on July 23, 1914, to Sam and Lola Bhael; she attended Paris Junior College, where she met the love of her life, Ulmon Clements; they were married on May 29, 1937, sharing nearly six decades until his passing in 1996; and WHEREAS, After college, Mrs. Clements became an accomplished dance instructor in Paris and Brownsville, specializing in tap, and she continued to enjoy dancing throughout her life; she and Mr. Clements published newspapers in Carthage and Lewisville for many years, a vocation through which they were afforded the opportunity to meet a number of prominent figures, including General Douglas MacArthur and Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson; and WHEREAS, In 1972, Mrs. Clements and her husband retired and moved to Hideaway; together they published the city's first newspaper, the Observer, and were instrumental in creating the Hideaway News; she was active in the community as a charter congregant of Hideaway Lake Community Church as well as a member of several bridge clubs; she also taught water aerobics until the age of 92 and regularly volunteered to aid worthy causes; and WHEREAS, Although Doris Clements is deeply missed, treasured memories of her quick wit and zest for life will long endure in the hearts of her family and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Doris Bhael Clements and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her nephew, Walter Clements; to her niece, Linda Clements Mathews; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Doris Bhael Clements.
