5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | death of Doris Bhael Clements of Hideaway on December 6, 2014, at |

7 | 8 | | the age of 100; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The former Dorothy Bhael was born in Beebe, |
---|
9 | 10 | | Arkansas, on July 23, 1914, to Sam and Lola Bhael; she attended |
---|
10 | 11 | | Paris Junior College, where she met the love of her life, Ulmon |
---|
11 | 12 | | Clements; they were married on May 29, 1937, sharing nearly six |
---|
12 | 13 | | decades until his passing in 1996; and |
---|
13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, After college, Mrs. Clements became an accomplished |
---|
14 | 15 | | dance instructor in Paris and Brownsville, specializing in tap, and |
---|
15 | 16 | | she continued to enjoy dancing throughout her life; she and |
---|
16 | 17 | | Mr. Clements published newspapers in Carthage and Lewisville for |
---|
17 | 18 | | many years, a vocation through which they were afforded the |
---|
18 | 19 | | opportunity to meet a number of prominent figures, including |
---|
19 | 20 | | General Douglas MacArthur and Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon |
---|
20 | 21 | | Johnson; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In 1972, Mrs. Clements and her husband retired and |
---|
22 | 23 | | moved to Hideaway; together they published the city's first |
---|
23 | 24 | | newspaper, the Observer, and were instrumental in creating the |
---|
24 | 25 | | Hideaway News; she was active in the community as a charter |
---|
25 | 26 | | congregant of Hideaway Lake Community Church as well as a member of |
---|
26 | 27 | | several bridge clubs; she also taught water aerobics until the age |
---|
27 | 28 | | of 92 and regularly volunteered to aid worthy causes; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Although Doris Clements is deeply missed, treasured |
---|
29 | 30 | | memories of her quick wit and zest for life will long endure in the |
---|
30 | 31 | | hearts of her family and friends; now, therefore, be it |
---|
31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
---|
32 | 33 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Doris Bhael |
---|
33 | 34 | | Clements and extend sincere condolences to the members of her |
---|
34 | 35 | | family: to her nephew, Walter Clements; to her niece, Linda |
---|
35 | 36 | | Clements Mathews; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, |
