No. 2089 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Proud residents of Prosper are gathering for the Party at the Park on April 18, 2015, to close out their yearlong celebration of the 100th anniversary of the city's incorporation; and WHEREAS, Prosper traces its origins to 1902, when the location began serving as the central stop between Dallas and Sherman on the St. Louis, San Francisco and Texas Railway; the establishment of the train station encouraged the towns of Rock Hill and Richland to merge to form the new settlement of Prosper, which got its name after the farms in the area enjoyed a particularly strong harvest; and WHEREAS, The town was incorporated on April 17, 1914, and continued to serve as a market center for cotton and corn farmers during its early decades; today, this rapidly growing city lives up to its name as an upscale suburban community that benefits from its proximity to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex while preserving its small-town sense of place; and WHEREAS, In a final commemoration of the city's centennial year, the Party at the Park includes games, rides, and a 1950s rock and roll revue; the event is concluding with the burying of a time capsule that will preserve artifacts representative of life in Prosper in 2015; and WHEREAS, The 100th anniversary of Prosper provides a fitting opportunity for its citizens to celebrate the city's rich history as they work to build an even brighter future, and they may indeed take great pride in their community's contributions to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the centennial year of the city of Prosper and extend to the community's residents and guests sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and meaningful closing ceremony; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the city of Prosper as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
