| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, For more than four decades, the Friends of the |

| 6 | 7 | | Rockwall County Library organization has been the major advocate |

| 7 | 8 | | for the library and for the readers of Rockwall County; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1972, Friends of the Rockwall County |

| 9 | 10 | | Library provides supplemental financial support to the Rockwall |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | County Library and works to increase awareness of the institution's |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | programs and services; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, the group has raised money with its |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Lunch Basket program and special events and from donations by its |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | business partners; the funds have gone to ensure the continuation |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | of existing programs and to purchase additional books, materials, |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | and equipment not covered by the county budget; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Since 2000, Friends has led the effort to finance |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | and build a new county library building, and it has been the leading |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | financial supporter of classes in GED, adult literacy, citizenship |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | test preparation, and English as a Second Language (ESL); the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | organization has also purchased two new children's learning |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | computers, a portable sound system, and a new white board, and it |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | has contributed funds toward the expansion of the Large Print |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | collection and toward the Summer Reading program, which reaches |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | some 2,800 children, teens, and adults; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Thanks in large part to the volunteers of the |

| 27 | 28 | | Friends of the Rockwall County Library over the past 43 years, the |

| 28 | 29 | | library in Rockwall County continues to thrive as a source of |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | education, inspiration, and entertainment for its community; now, |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 32 | 33 | | Legislature hereby commend the work of Friends of the Rockwall |
